Semantix Companion

The sleeper

The companion reads its own conversations back and keeps what mattered — without being asked.

Some things only become worth keeping once the conversation is over. You cannot tell, in the moment, whether the thing you just decided was the point of the whole hour or a detour you will abandon.

So a companion goes back over its conversations and distils them. This is the sleeper, and it runs on its own.

When it runs#

Two triggers, and it is the first one that fires:

A dozen new turns. Once a conversation has twelve turns the companion has not yet slept on, it distils immediately. Long conversations do not wait for you to stop talking.

Four new turns and three quiet minutes. For a shorter exchange that has clearly ended, it waits for the silence and then reads it back.

"New" is doing real work in both. Every turn already distilled is marked, so a conversation is never read twice — a session you come back to tomorrow only sleeps on what you added.

If a pass fails, that conversation is left alone for ten minutes before it is reconsidered, so a model outage does not turn into a retry storm.

What you see#

When the sleeper finds something worth keeping, a notification says so — 💤 Slept on its own — with how many memories were carved, how many existing ones were updated, and their names.

When it finds nothing, it says nothing. That is the common case and it is not news.

If it could not run at all, that you do hear about: Couldn't sleep on this conversation.

Doing it yourself#

Send /sleep as a message and the pass starts immediately, regardless of how ripe the conversation is. It is not a message to the companion; it is an instruction to the app.

Unlike the automatic pass, this one narrates itself: preparing the conversation, distilling the new turns, then carving each memory by name as it goes.

Two things it may tell you instead:

Nothing durable to carve from this conversation. — it read it and there was nothing worth keeping. That is a real answer, not a failure.

Nothing new to sleep on — every turn here is already remembered. — you have already slept on this one.

/sleep at the end of a session that mattered is a reasonable habit. It is also the fallback if you turn the automatic one off.

Turning it off#

Settings → Models → Semantix Memory → Sleep on its own. Off, and nothing is distilled unless you run /sleep yourself. The switch describes exactly the behaviour above:

Distil a conversation once it has a dozen new turns, or a few and three quiet minutes — nothing to remember to do. Off leaves it to /sleep.

Turning the master Memory switch off stops the sleeper too.

What it is not#

It is not a summary of your conversation. It produces memories — separate notes, each with a name, a kind and an importance — not a transcript digest. The conversation itself is kept anyway, and is searchable word-for-word regardless.

It is not reversible from the app. What it carves, it carves. There is no editor and no delete; the only way a memory changes afterwards is the companion writing over it.
